More Than A Memory
07.27.06
When we first met
There was nothing in my world
But you
A smile was never bigger
More sincere or more real
Than the two on our faces.
I knew that I loved you,
The moment I saw you.
And now that the smiles
Are gone,
Now that our hearts
Are broken and alone,
There is only one thing
That I know as truth.
I knew that I loved you,
Then,
And I love you more than ever,
Now.
Images stream
Across my consciousness
Of the past nine months.
Locked lips,
Conversations,
Sleeping soundly in your warmth,
Plans for the future,
And enjoying each moment
We shared as a pair.
These are the memories
I have of you.
The love I felt for you then,
And the love I have for you now,
Are both filled with the passion
Of those memories.
I am realizing
That my mistakes
Were in thinking your actions
Meant more than
The love we have had
So strongly for so long.
And I understand now,
That what happened
Means nothing,
In the shadow of the prospect
That our ‘forever’ has ended early,
And I will have to spend the rest of it
Without you.
You are so much more
To Me
Than a memory.
Memories grow faded
With the emotions that lived in them.
While the vision of you
Still strikes the same chords
In my heart
That it always has.
And it rings louder
In the echo
Of my empty arms.
I miss you like the present,
Not as a memory of the past.
As the one man
That I will ever really love;
The only man
Whom will ever have all my heart.
I love you now
With enough fervor to say,
I’ll get through this,
I’ll make this work,
If I can just hold on.
I loved you then,
And I love you even more deeply now.
I’ll spend the rest of my days
Living for you,
Loving you.
Because you will always be
More than a memory,
To me.
