Love Messes
Oct. 9th, 2006

I am in repair.
Or at least that was the plan,
But plans and I
Don’t go so well together these days.
I just can’t seem to follow through.

I’ve loved so many times
And fallen out,
Or fallen off.
You would think that I would run,
That I would flee the possibility
Of another love mess -
Another pile of broken hearts,
Failed loves, &
Devastated lovers.

I am in repair.
I am trying to learn
To love and be loved back.
But if I did what I said I would,
If I stopped making these messes
Left and right,
Then maybe I would miss my chance
To make the greatest mess of all.

And not the kind that you have to clean up with a kleenex or a towel. *snort*

The big kid kind.

I really like the form for this one. And the final line is, thanks to `mkinne, a very strong final statement.

I hope you enjoy it.

How do I see the image? For some reason, it's not showing up. Drat! Did you manip it with your new CS2?

What about 409? Can you 409 these messes? :)

You did a spectacular job with this Jess. It's definitely your style, free in many ways; but there are a few elements of structure that jump out at me, which I like. (You know me.)

I can very much sympathize too. We have to keep taking the chances, and potentially keep making the messes, to make that greatest mess of all, so to speak.

I still like "More Than a Memory" best I think, but this one is up there. Good job girl!

You know me, I love pretty much everything you write... but this is beautiful in it's simplicity. And so true. All the pain and confusion is worth it in the end when you find yourself in the most confusing, rewarding, amazing situation of them all. You captured this oxymoron perfectly. Love it sweety!

I think what I like best about it is its simplicity. The mild repetition, the focus on the concept of a mess, and the description of the existence, the characteristics, and the effects of those messes all come together to create a strong but subtle buildup - because the final line.

I am in love with the final lines simplicity. It needs no explaination.

You're right - all the pain and confusion, its all just part of the journey. If we are smart, we learn to love the pain and the confusion BECAUSE it is a part of the process.

Thanks so much Lauren - I really appreciate it.

Not sure why you can't see the screenshot. It should be there.

These aren't the kind of messes you want to truly CLEAN UP.

Thanks for the words. :)

Me neither.

No doubt, on both counts.

I can see the picture now! :) Awwww...

Those were great days.

I agree with your and Lauren's discussion up top; I like the simplicity too, the concept of a mess representing the entirety (all aspects) of a relationship, and the final line (it does say it all).

. . . good luck in your efforts . . .

i just hope its doesnt end up being efforsts to repair something thatwasnt really there.

its easy to set things aside and only remember or only let yurself see what you want when theres a greater goal in the works. . .

i hope thats not the case. . .and i hope ya find a solution that ends up making you happier than you would have hoped for.

Classy, I really am impressed. I don't read alot of poetry that gives me pause.

Why thank you! It can be very hard to wade through the messy slew of poetry here on deviantart. Unfortunately, this community isn't the best to recieve poetry well.

So when you can find a poem you like...then it's always good. I feel special that it happened to be mine!
